Sacraments: Baptism

- "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons (daughters) of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:
  "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."

  Christ gave us the Sacrament of Baptism through His baptism in the Jordan River by
  (St.) John the Baptist. In Baptism, God washes away the Original Sin we inherited from our first parents, Adam & Eve, bringing us back into His fellowship and allowing us to receive His grace - God's very life within us. It is a washing away of the old, and being renewed through Christ in Baptism, and through His death on the Cross and Resurrection (+ Romans 6:4).
  
  The Sacrament of Baptism can be received at any age but is typically sought and received for children by their parents in their infancy. In Baptism, we make a solemn promise that we desire and will work toward pursuing a relationship with God through living the Christian Faith as handed down from Christ through His Church - rejecting sin, and avoiding temptation with the help of God's grace. Parents and godparents promise to raise the child(-ren) in the Catholic Faith and take on the responsibility of being the primary example to the child(-ren) as they grow. It is through the parents that children first learn of the importance of the Catholic Faith, and through their relationship gain a glimpse of God's love for us - Our Father's deep love for His children. The Church, in administering the Sacrament of Baptism, acts as Christ's representative, and endeavors to walk with and guide the family as they grow together in Christ through the Catholic Faith.
- Baptisms are celebrated with our faith community during the Saturday or Sunday Eucharist celebrations. We are happy to walk with you and your family through this holy sacrament and throughout life.

  Baptisms occur, on the weekdays, in the late afternoon- early evenings. Weekend baptisms are on Saturdays from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM or on Sundays after the 11:00 AM Mass until early evening. We also baptize during any of the Sunday Masses (Saturday- 5:00 PM, Sunday- 8:00 & 10:00 AM).
